  • The Humane Solution – Owltra is the humane solution for getting rid of large populations of rodents, as one set of 4 C batteries is enough to exterminate 60 rats. Featuring improved dual infrared sensors to protect kids and pets, Owltra ensures no false zaps. The no-escape design keeps the rodent in place while generating 6,000-10,000 of high-voltage shock for quick elimination.
  • No-Mess Disposal – With magnetic latches, you’ll never have to touch or see the rodent. Simply pull off the trap’s lid and empty the rodent in the trash. Owltra deactivates automatically when the the top is removed, allowing for safe and secure cleaning.
  • Pet-safe Dual Infrared Sensor – The chamber is designed with two infrared sensors, one at the entrance and one at the back. Owltra only activates when it detects a rodent inside the trap—preventing false zaps while protecting children and small pets.
  • Quick-Zap System – Our unique zap system guarantees 100% elimination without causing the rodent to suffer. It’s also a safer alternative to using poison and chemicals and can be placed anywhere inside your home or business.
  • Convenient Bait Area – Lure rodents in by placing a pea-sized amount of bait at the back of the trap. Simply lift open the bait door and use a toothpick or cotton swab to apply bait on the trap’s floor, opposite of the entrance. Baits high in protein, such as peanut butter, are recommended.

Purchased this to eliminate some small rodents which have been breeding and increasing in number.
We have another brand model which is identical in design, decided to get one of these to increase the chances of killing more rodents.

Using this electric trap and the other one, early on we were able to kill a few larger rodents. But for some reason after killing the big ones, the small ones either smartened up or were not getting the full shock of the trap and so were not being killed. The small ones continue to come back and do not get killed and most times we found the bait remaining in the trap, although sometimes not.
The conclusion was being intelligent creatures they learned not to take the risk or they simply do not get the same shock as the larger rodents (possibly due to weight and total skin surface area in contact with the metal in the trap).

So after continuing to consistently set 2 of these traps daily they lost their effectiveness.
We have wireless camera’s set up in the garden so we could see the smaller rodents would still come around during the day and night. But the mouse trap kills just stopped.
And yes we even purchased alkaline C batteries because they are higher in voltage to make sure the trap had the best chances of getting a kill. No luck however.

In the end the solution was bait (the real stuff not the natural stuff). Not exactly ideal since this means they die randomly and all over the place. So you occasionally smell something decomposing but the smell goes away after a week or so.
Really did not want to use bait since electric shocks must be quicker and more painless, but it was the only solution that worked and continues to work.
If you are going to use bait make sure to read the instructions carefully and use it as described. Most likely it will recommend a “bait box” which allows only the mice to access the bait (no pets).

I liked that my unit arrived before the suggested delivery date, and when it did, the trap was heavier than I expected, having heft that suggested quality. The instructions – what few there are, this is not a complicated contraption – were clear and it was easy to load the bait area with a dob of peanut butter (I suggest using normal salted / sugared peanut butter, I eat unsalted / unsugared…apparently, rodents aren’t as healthy living as me, they didn’t like it!).

Installing the four C-cell batteries was simple, you slide the cover and the orientation is clear. And turning the unit on and off via the slide switch on the top is also obvious, with a green LED that lights up for a moment when you first enable it. My unit was running for over three weeks before the rodent event, so it does not chew through C-cells.

What’s not so obvious is the green ‘flash’ when the unit is tripped. It comes on once every ten seconds, but the LED also flashes occasionally when the power is on to show the batteries are still charged, it would be more obvious if the ‘tripped’ LED signal was a double flash or some such (I expect they do that to extend battery life, but flashing LED’s like that don’t use much power). Or even better, spring for a red LED to indicate the trap is sprung.

I had two false alarms – and I know something was eating the bait because the peanut butter disappeared – but third time was the charm with the salted, sugared stuff. I heard the unit trigger that third time, it was a loud snap sound. Removing the rodent was simple, you can either take the top off, which is easy, or in my case, I just shook the animal out.

There’s not much more to say, it’s a straightforward trap that’s safer and less messy than a spring-loaded one. I bought this because the neighbour’s cat often strays into where I needed to set it up, and there’s no way pussy was putting a paw down the back to where the electric pad is so it was not losing one of its nine lives exploring the unit.

Expensive but recommended over traditional traps, I’m only taking a star off because the signalling method is not so obvious and traps are often in out of the way places making taking a look to see if it worked inconvenient.

We’ve had both the smaller and larger versions of this for a couple months now, we keep refreshing the bait, changing bait type (including many types of food the mouse is eating from our kitchen in addition to typical cheese, chocolate, peanut butter etc)…. and it has caught nothing.

By far the best I have ever tried. Works just as described. The only trick I figured because rats are smart and always on the watch for danger, you have to camouflage the trap somehow. I used the packaging box as a disguise and it worked like a charm.

Easy to set up once you have 4 C sized batteries. Quick clean kill but needs manual reset everytime so one unit = one rat a night. Think they may breed faster than I can exterminate. Chucks dead rat out so his mates can steal the bait.

A very clean and convenient way to exterminate rodents, no need to touch anything you catch.

Had this for two weeks, rats will not go near it. Put peanut butter in and other things they like and the just walk straight past it

    Owltra 1:
Cought a rat after 10 days, for some reason. Last 2-3 days did not check it, so found teh rat rotten already. Liquids all over the lower and (!)the upper part(it was a big one):
    – Upper part: even disasembled, cannot be separarted from the electronics, so could not clean it thoroughly. Had to use duster, brush and alcohol – still smells a lot.
-Lower part – sinked in hot water and detergent – did not help much. Liquids between the plastic and metal parts remain and smell a lot. Cannot be cleaned either. Ultrasuond only might help eventually.
As result: when swithed on. both green and red lighta are flashing.

Overall: Cleaning not taken in consideration during design. Dissapointed.

Rodents that have been ignoring conventional traps and baits were trapped by this product.
The only negative is the instructions aren’t accurate.
It doesn’t flash once every 10 seconds when set off. If flashes rapidly.
There is an indication it is active when you turn it on but no lights, flashing or otherwise, once active.
I don’t know as yet if it will indicate when the batteries are low as I haven’t had it that long. I’ll check them manually.
