From overwatering my plants and ending up with fungus gnat issues, this nifty gadget (one upstairs, one downstairs) means my plants only get a drink when needed. Also helps you get to know your plants – Calatheas like moist soil and enjoy a drink reading 2-4, a ficus however likes to be dried out to a 1. So I have found this moisture meter a must have in my houseplant artillery!

I had no idea how much moisture was being retained lower in my indoor pots. I was over watering because the top would be dry. Couldn’t figure out what was wrong with my plants. I’ll be repotting in better soil soon. This meter has really helped.

If you really need to measure the soil moisture, invest in something better. It is extremely imprecise, the units doesn’t say much, it shifts from wet to dry when you stick it in the same spot, and it was a waste of money for me. This is cheap because it doesn’t work. You can use your finger or a stick to insert into the soil and check how humid it is and It will be way more useful and accurate than this product.

This is an effective way to see how moist the soil is when watering plants. I primarily use it for my indoor plants and it is easy to use.
It is worth noting that plants have different moisture requirements, so it is helpful if you know this to prevent overwatering.. There is a guide provided but I recognised very few and none of my indoor plants were listed.
I don’t understand why they come in a pack of two. I only need one and have given the other as a gift to a friend.

Seems to be fairly accurate, has saved the life of many of my house plants! I bought specifically for a lemon tree I just added (and desperately didn’t want to kill) and now I use it to check all of my house plants. Turns out I was really over watering them! I check a few spots of soil in larger pots before deciding whether to water or not. Small pots I just stick it in and see

Using this for a few weeks, I realized some of my plants–even ones of the same type in nearly the same location–simply need to be watered more often/less often than the others. I wondered why some were doing better than others!
Using this, I can test and see if it’s time to water (much easier and more accurate than using your finger…can’t always reach down to the root-level with your finger), and my plants are doing a lot better now.
